Why use a long leash for dog training
A long dog training leash

I wanted to share a bit about my experience with the 3m dog training leash and why it’s become one of my favourites for walking. At first, I was hesitant to use it in our neighbourhood, but now, I see it as a fantastic tool for offering our dogs some much-needed mental enrichment.

Here’s why:

Why Sniffing Matters

Sniffing is like reading the daily news for dogs—it’s a way for them to explore their world and process all sorts of information. By letting them sniff freely on a 3m long dog training leash, we provide mental stimulation that encourages calmness, lowers their heart rate, and is even more satisfying than a single long walk. Structured as "sniffaries," these walks offer more than just physical exercise; they help your dog feel fulfilled and calm.

'Sniffaries' vs. Focused Walks

'Sniffaries,' where your dog can move at its own pace with a loose leash, and the main rule is no pulling! These walks are great for relaxing and letting your dog indulge their natural curiosity.

Focused walks are great for busy streets or times when you need their full attention; focused walking is helpful to keep them close and engaged with you.

I prefer using 'Sniffaries' walks with Betson as often as possible. By incorporating these into your routine, you’ll find they become more attentive and are less likely to pull hard, as they’re getting what they need naturally.

Finding the Right Leash

Comfortable, waterproof, and easy-to-clean materials are key, and I can’t recommend the lightweight Snoot Up leash enough. While retractable leashes are popular, a 3m leash gives more control and connection with your dog, allowing them some freedom in a safer way.

How to Enjoy a 3m Leash Walk

Grab the 3m leash and let your dog guide the way in quieter areas. Letting them lead doesn’t mean they won’t listen to you — in fact, they’ll see you as a fantastic, engaging companion. Remember to reward them for checking in with you, and sprinkle in some scatter feeding for an extra fun, enriching activity!

There are plenty of different products on the market; however, from my experience, this waterproof 3-metre leash by Snoot Up is one of my favourites. Also, check out our Speak Dog Instagram post, clearing up some dog behaviour myths.
